How To Fix “Vanguard Server Snapshot Error” on Call of Duty

Many players of Call of Duty: Vanguard have complained that they are getting thrown out of online matches with the notice “Server snapshot error” rather frequently.

Users of PCs, PS4, and Xboxes are the only ones who have reported experiencing this issue.

Method 1: Avoid Playing in a Dominance Style Game (For Now)

The great majority of Vanguard Server Snapshot Error reports come from players experiencing the issue in Domination. Though the developers haven’t yet admitted a causal link, it’s obvious that the volume of reports has prompted them to look into the problem and implement a patch.

Vanguard Server Snapshot Error

Stay away from Domination modes until the developers at Sledgehammer Games can figure out what’s wrong and fix it (regardless of the map). For games where this doesn’t appear to be an issue, we’ve compiled a list. While waiting for the next game patch, you may like to try this mode:

  • Free-for-All
  • Battle to the Finish: Teams vs. Each Other
  • Find and destroy
  • Reported Death
  • Hardpoint
  • Patrol
  • Control

The following is a workaround for this problem in all other game modes.

Method 2: Achieve a NAT Type That is Open

Since the cause of the “Server snapshot problem” in Call of Duty: Vanguard is probably out of your hands, checking that your NAT is open is the best course of action. If your NAT type is closed, you’ll have a lot more difficulties keeping in touch with players in the same lobby as you, leading to frequent instances of this error.

It’s important to remember that while Activision employs specialised servers to facilitate matchmaking, the bulk of the game’s processing is done via player connections. It’s for this reason that having an Open NAT type is crucial.

The procedures for discovering if your NAT is Open or Close will vary depending on the platform you’re using when the problem arises. We’ve broken down the process of determining if your NAT is open or closed into three distinct sections. If you’re using a specific platform, use the instructions for that system.

Method 3: Verify The Network Address Translation (NAT) Type on Your Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X.

Your Xbox’s NAT type may be seen in the Current Network Status, which can be accessed through the Network settings menu.

To determine your Xbox One’s NAT type, follow these steps on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X:

Step 1: Simply pressing the Xbox button on your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S console will take you to the main menu.

Step 2: To access all of your configuration options, select System from the Help menu’s Guide tab.

Step 3: To change your network settings, select network from the Settings menu.

Step 4: Open or Closed should be displayed in the NAT Type field, which can be found under Current Network Status in the Network settings menu.

Method 4: Verify The PC’s NAT Setting.

If you’re having trouble playing on a computer, use the Xbox Console Companion app and go to the Network settings to check the NAT type.

This is what you have to do:

Step 1: If you want to find the “Xbox console companion” software, you can do so by pressing the Windows key and typing “Xbox” into the search bar.

Step 2: In the results, select Xbox Console Companion to launch the programme.

Step 3: From within Xbox Console Companion, select Network by clicking the cogwheel in the app’s lower-left corner and then selecting it from the main menu.

Step 4: After the network has been inspected, look at NAT Type to see how it’s functioning.
